What is Fun Friday?

Fun Friday is a corporate workplace activity when a company sets aside the last working day of the week for a small or mini event where companies organize fun games, dance, and celebrations to help employees relax, bond, and recharge before the weekend.

How Fun Friday was Introduced in India

In India, Fun Friday came as part of the global corporate culture introduced by multinational companies (MNCs) and IT firms in the late 1990s and 2000s. When global giants like Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Accenture, and TCS expanded, they brought with them Western workplace practices such as Casual Fridays, team-building activities, and employee engagement programs.

Why Fun Friday Is Important

Motivation, productivity, employee engagement, retention, team bonding, and social interaction are key to creating a happy and healthy workplace, and Fun Friday is a direct driver of these factors. Hence, it’s important for corporates.

List of Top Fun Friday Games

Here’s the top Fun Friday games commonly implemented by corporates.

1. Lift The Ball

Lifting the ball is a very simple and common activity used in corporates that helps to improve communication and collaboration, and it can be executed in a small space with some easy props.

Props Required

2 paper cups, one soft ball, and 6-7 pens.

2. Glass Pyramid Challenge with Balloons

This is a famous Fun Friday activity in which participants inflate a balloon inside a paper glass, then organize those glasses in a pyramid shape along with the inflated balloon. After placing the glass in the correct position, they deflate the balloon and repeat the same process with the remaining glasses until the pyramid is completed.

Activity Outcomes

Balance, Patience and Focus

Props Required

Balloons, Paper, Glass, and Table or Desk

3. Grab the Glass - Action & Reaction Challenge

Participants stand in two lines facing each other. A glass is placed between every pair. The facilitator calls out body parts in sequence (e.g., “ear,” “hair”), which participants must touch. Suddenly, the facilitator shouts, “Grab the glass!” and participants try to grab the glass between them. Whoever grabs the glass will be the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Focus, Reflexes, and Alertness.

Props Required

Glasses only

4. Pass the Hoopla

Teams with 3 to 15 or more participants form a chain by holding hands with one another. Starting from one end, a participant passes a hoopla ring over their body and onto the next participant without breaking the chain. The process continues until the hoopla successfully passes through all members and reaches the last participant. The team that completes the hoopla pass first is declared the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Problem Solving, Communication, Coordination, and fun

Props Required

Hoopla Only

5. Fill the Cup - Water Spoon Relay

All teams, along with their participants, start by filling a spoon with water at the starting point and carefully carrying it to a glass placed a short distance away. They pour the water into the glass and return, after which the next participant continues the same process in relay style. The team that fills the glass first is declared the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Strategy, Team Coordination, and Time Management

Props Required

Glasses, Spoons, and Water

6. Aim & Win - Bucket Ball Toss

In this activity, participants aim and throw a ball into a bucket placed a short distance away. The next participant from the same team then repeats the process. At the end, the team with the highest number of successful throws or balls in the bucket is declared the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Accuracy, Team Spirit, and Strategy

Props Required

Bucket or Basket, and Balls

7. Balloon Fight Game

In this fun and energetic game, each participant ties a balloon to their ankle using a string. The objective is to pop other players’ balloons while protecting your own. Everyone runs, dodges, and stomps to burst balloons, creating a mix of excitement and laughter. The last person left with an unpopped balloon is declared the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Accuracy, Team Spirit, and Strategy

Props Required

Threads and Balloons

8. Burst the Balloon Race

Participants are divided into teams (usually 3–4 teams). Each member, one by one, inflates a balloon, carries it to a chair placed at a distance, and bursts it by sitting on it (using hips or bums). Once a balloon is burst, the next teammate continues the process. The team that bursts all their balloons first wins the challenge.

Props Required

Chairs and Balloons

Activity Outcomes

Team coordination, enthusiasm, and lots of laughter.

9. Glass Balance Pyramid Relay

Teams are divided into groups. From Point A, one member at a time carries a balloon balanced on their head (without using their hands). They walk to Point B, where they carefully place the balloon to build a pyramid structure. The relay continues until the pyramid is completed. The team that completes the pyramid first (without dropping or touching the balloons) is the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Balance, focus, patience, and teamwork

Props Required

Balloons Only

10. Team Rope Pyramid

In this activity, a team is given multiple ropes, with each member holding one end. Using only these ropes, they must carefully lift and place glasses to build a pyramid structure. Since no one is allowed to touch the glasses directly, the task demands strong coordination, clear communication, and a smart strategy. The challenge continues until one team completes the pyramid, and the team that finishes first without collapsing it is declared the winner.

Activity Outcomes

Teamwork, planning, patience, and problem-solving

Props Required

Ropes as per the team size, Paper, Glass, and Rubber Bands
